Galaga was among the top ten highest-grossing arcade games of 1983 in the United States. In Japan, it was the sixth highest-grossing arcade game of 1981. Galaga improved even more by allowing the ship to fire more than one bullet at a time. The barriers at the bottom were also removed. Galaxian was basically a clone of Space Invaders that improved on the it by featuring full colour graphics versus the two colours of Space Invaders and had the enemies drop in pattern formations from different parts of the screen. This first of Namco's big hit in arcades was Galaxian (1979) being noted as one of the first video games to use RGB colour graphics. Galaga was created by Japanese developer Shigeru Yokoyama, a veteran of Namco. Some enemies can capture a player's ship via a tractor beam, which can be rescued to turn the player into a dual fighter with extra firepower. Controlling a spaceship, the player has to destroy the Galaga forces in each stage while avoiding enemies and projectiles. It is the sequel to Galaxian (1979) which was Namco's first major video game hit in arcades.

In "Galaga 3D Impact," the 3DS itself is wielded like spaceship controls players move the handheld in real space, to target and blast the insectoid alien invaders they see, through the viewscreen, in the virtual space around them.Īlso featured are small-screen versions of the fan-favorite Pac-Man Championship Edition, and of Galaga Legions, a modernization of the series' definitive fixed-screen shooter action, with colorful, flowing 3D graphics.
